It would be easy to believe the common misconception that TV make-up is simply about making people look good, as they might for an evening out, but in fact there is an endless number of scenarios in which presenters, actors and actresses, musicians and other performers might appear, and all of these scenarios require a different approach to make-up. Factors to take into account also include whether the person is going to be broadcast live or filmed for future airing, as well as whether the filming is taking place under studio lighting, or outside; and if it's outside, the time of day and weather will also impact on what make-up is required.

Television make-up can also be used to perform different functions. For example it might be required simply in order for the person's natural appearance to be maintained under the studio lights and on camera. Conversely a person playing a character may need make-up specifically for the character being played. Somewhere in between that there is corrective television make-up which is designed to enhance positive attributes and downplay any flaws.

All the skills required for an artist to perform television make-up are included in the course here at the London Makeup Academy. If you want to start a career in this highly competitive, yet extremely rewarding profession then we are perfectly placed to give you the best start. Nicole Arter, the Academy's founder and main tutor has a wealth of knowledge and experience and ensures all her students are armed with the skills necessary for a long, exciting career. Although it is a phrase used more prevalently in the United States we are happy to refer to the LMA as a school of cosmetology as our students will gain knowledge in various disciplines which sit under the cosmetology umbrella:

* make up artistry
* hair styling
* fashion
* beauty and special effects make up
* nails
* eyebrows, eyelash extensions

Because we are also concerned with ensuring our students leave the academy with *all* the skills they need to be a make up artist and a successful business manager we include seminars and lectures on the following additional subjects:

* airbrushing
* business management
* self promotion

Finally, once the students graduate from our 'school of cosmetology' they will be granted entry to our London-based Makeup Artists agency.

We truly don't believe any other academy in the UK provides the same level of expert knowledge, tuition and opportunities for a long-lasting career in a fast-moving, dynamic industry. Classes are run during the evenings allowing you to work during your study so call the London Make-Up Academy today on +44 (0) 7720 44 77 14 for more details.

Make-Up Artist Career

If you want a career as a make-up artist, whether you're ready to take your next step in education or needing a change in direction the most important thing to get the right training. The London Make-Up Academy was created by Nicole Arter, still the main tutor, a make-up artist with a background in fashion modelling, working in countries across the globe before making the switch to make-up artistry. Since that time Nicole has worked with hundreds of talented artists and high profile clients such as Cat Deeley, Paris Hilton and Ricky Gervais and for high profile titles including Vogue and Harpers & Queen. Having spent time working as a model Nicole realised that she wanted to be on the other side of the curtain, in a more creative role, one which offered more variety and excitement. A make-up artist career offered just that.

One hugely important factor which puts the LMA above any other make-up school (actually there are many reasons why the LMA is the only choice if you want a long and meaningful career as a make-up artist) is the attention to the 'career' aspect. Beyond the extensive experience and knowledge in the fashion industry and in make-up that Nicole has built over the years, she also completed a degree in Business, and uses this to great effect in instilling the values and core constructs of Business into her teaching. Understanding the need for her students to be able to develop their own career once the course is complete Nicole strongly believes that her role is not only to nurture the skills of a make-up artist, but also to help prepare them for running a business, which is exactly what they'll need to do once they are a full-time make-up artist.

The course itself is full of content relevant to the fashion industry today. Following her own studies Nicole found the majority of training for make-up artists to be in serious need of updating to bring it in line with the 21st Century. It was the inadequacies in make-up schooling which led Nicole to create the Academy in the first place.

So if you want a meaningful career as a make-up artist, at a place where your individual skills will be nurtured to help you create your own style and carve your own niche, whilst also providing you with the know-how to survive in a fast-moving and challenging industry then don't hesitate to contact The London Make-Up Academy today.

For course details use the buttons at the top of the page and call us on +44 (0) 7720 44 77 14.

Nails School London

The main focus of the London Makeup Academy is to arm graduates with enough knowledge of each discipline they'll need to be a working, professional make up artist. We set out to raise the standard of courses on offer by bringing our teaching into the 21st Century and creating an advanced, all-in-one course which produces multi-skilled artists who can save their clients money by providing an all-encompassing service.

Having worked as a full-time make up artist herself, Nicole Arter, the LMAs founder and main tutor, knows all too well what it takes to work in the industry and was aware of problems within traditional training methods. This provided the inspiration behind the inception of the Academy. The comprehensive syllabus, with its attention to technical detail is taught on an intimate basis, placing the emphasis on the individual and ultimately producing artists with their own identity and not clones with no flair or imagination.

Because the course has been produced to include a range of skills the LMA can also be described as the following:

* a nails school
* a hair stylist school
* a fashion stylist school
* a business school
* a make up artist agency

If you strive to be better, if you always viewed yourself as an individual with something different to offer and you have a passion for the world of fashion, of make-up, hair and nails then you have arrived at the right place. The London Make-Up Academy can help to hone your natural talents and turn you into a professional make up artist. We are really proud of the fact that we have been able to achieve this and that we remain the only school teaching to this level. Equally as important is the fact that our course has been devised to include ALL aspects of makeup training, and ALL the surrounding skills a make up artist needs, which gives our graduates far greater potential for catching and keeping clients. Some of the related skills which are often a requirement when providing photoshoot makeup include:

* hair styling
* fashion make up
* beauty make up
* special effects make up
* nails
* eyebrows
* eyelash extensions
* airbrushing

All of these areas are covered by the make up artistry course here at The London Makeup Academy. Not only that, but we also prepare our students for life as a self-employed makeup artist; providing lectures and seminars on various aspects such as bookkeeping, business management and self promotion.

Places on the course are run on a first come/first served basis so for more information you can either contact us, register online or download an information pack.

London Beauty School

At the London Make Up Academy we run our make up artistry course 3 times a year taking different intakes every January, May and September. The training should also arm the artist with the skills necessary to adapt themselves once the training is complete. These are the principles on which the London Makeup Academy is built and the makeup lessons we provide are taught using the most advanced techniques by teachers passionate about their subject: makeup!

You can find out more about our makeup lessons by clicking the Course Details button at the top of the menu.

Makeup lessons, as part of the make up artists course, run through January, May and September for 8 weeks. In this way our course produces makeup artists with a flair for individuality and a range of skills, ensuring more job opportunities and better career prospects. Our makeup artist training also provides our students with the know-how to run their own business; including topics such as tax and book keeping.

Since we first designed the makeup artist training course based on improving those aspects of traditional training which had become stagnant and dated, we have been flattered by imitation, but the LMA is the original and best. In an industry as competitive and fast evolving as fashion and media make up it is vital that a training course adapts it's teachings to the match current thinking, but it should also provide students with the skill-set to continue to develop throughout their career, and those are the principles on which we have built the London Makeup Academy.

If you would like more information on the makeup artist training courses we run, or information about the school itself then please take a look through the rest of our website and don't hesitate to contact us with any questions.

Make Up School London

As a make up school based in London the LMA was created due to the high ambition of its founder Nicole Arter; having trained in older and more established institutions Nicole knows only too well the limitations of these courses - the syllabus, the training kit and even the areas of experience or expertise of those involved in delivering the course - and so she sought to develop a make up school which wouldn't be held back by such limitations.

You can read a little more about the background behind the London Make Up Academy's inception and its creator by visiting the Our School page. Nicole also has the benefit of having worked at the highest level of the fashion industry as a make up artist and a hair and nail expert. So you can be sure that the courses provided by this London make up school are put together using current techniques and relevant advice in an industry where these aspects couldn't be more critical.

This London make up school is proud of the comprehensive course offered to its clients. We know that in this extremely competitive and continually evolving industry anyone hoping to break in will need a range of skills in order that their opportunities are not limited. For more details of the course features have a look at the Our Course page.

If you are interested in enrolling at a make up school in London then The London Make-Up Academy is the choice of the professional. Our make-up artists courses include not only modules on how to apply make-up for use in the media but also for the fashion industry; a fast moving and ever changing area in which to work. For this reason we organise guest speakers from the industry to come in and impart their valuable experience and know-how to our students.

The make-up artist courses can be run during the evenings which allows students to earn whilst they learn, and our Central London location puts us not only at the heart of the country's fashion industry, but all within easy accessible reach of the surrounding boroughs and districts.

As part of the make-up artist courses we also include teachings on hair, nails, face and body make-up, eye lash extensions, eyebrows and an introduction to the skills involved with airbrushing. We are also keen to provide our students with careers advice which not only looks at development opportunities through our own London Make-Up Artists agency, but also seminars on career planning, even down to tax and book keeping requirements.

For more information on the make-up artist courses please continue to browse through the website and don't hesitate to contact us with any questions.

Hair Stylist Academy And More

Although the main focus of the academy is to teach professional make up application we are interested in the fashion industry as a whole because we want to give our students a wide range of skills that will empower their career and provide them with as many options for employment as possible. As such we are not only a make up artist school, but also a hair stylist academy.

As a hair stylist academy we provide seminars on bridal make up and hair styling as well as private make up lessons. We also teach students on how to produce great makeup effects for birthday parties ranging from children's parties to adult events. Styling advice also comes in the form of recommendations made by celebrity and fashion stylists, so that our students know they are getting the most up to date and relevant instruction.

Whilst being a hair stylist academy and professional make up artist school the London Make-up Academy also offer seminars on hen night make up which incorporate professional massage therapy too. There are also refresher lessons in make up, hair styling, nails and eyebrows and all of these can be provided in advanced bespoke personal tuition.

Photographic Make Up

One of the most important tasks, and one which creates a vast amount of work for a professional make up artist, is photographic make up. To those without experience it might seem strange, or you may not have considered the idea that makeup for a photo shoot needs to be approached differently to everyday application. As with any artistic endeavour there are themes, objectives and aesthetic qualities which the photographer wishes to achieve and a large contributor to the success of the finished images is the make up.

Photographic make up isn't necessarily about making someone look natural, it could be part of your remit, but it's not the most exciting aspect of being a make up artist. There is undoubtedly a great skill involved in painting someone up to look as though they are actually naked of product, and this is something included in the syllabus, but as artists we get our kicks from creating something new and exciting. At the LMA we encourage the creative beast within our students, enabling them to develop their skills and define their own sense of direction and style.

Putting a course together in an area like photographic make up requires that all our staff are professionals themselves with the experience and vision to direct students down the best path, providing them with the potential for a long and successful career in an ever-evolving industry. Being based in London means that we are at heart of British fashion giving us the advantage over those schools elsewhere.

Make-Up Artist School

Welcome to the blog pages of the London Make-Up Academy. Throughout the course of the next few weeks and months we will be updating these pages with articles and news related to the work and the teaching which goes on within the school. For those people interested in enrolling onto our course please follow the links to the main pages of the site and feel free to contact us with any questions. We have set up a "Frequently Asked Questions" page which may save you the cost of calling, and there are more details about the courses delivered at this make-up artist school but failing that, we are always happy to speak to you should you need further assistance.

So this being the first article it seemed like a good idea to look at the kinds of things we teach at a make-up artist school. Don't get me wrong, the title is fairly descriptive and self explanatory, but for the sake of thoroughness, and to make sure our readers don't have any misconceptions about exactly what we do here at The London Make-Up Academy, I decided it was still a worthwhile starting point for these pages.

The first thing to say is that as a make-up artist school we are interested in our students being at the frontline of the fashion industry. In our eyes the most important word in that description is "artist". Working in the music, film and photo-shoot industries as a make-up professional requires not only the skills but the creative flair to be innovative and ambitious. So whilst we teach the science behind professional make-up artistry we also encourage and nurture our students to help them carve their own niche in what is a highly competitive area of work.

The course we have put together at the LMA is one of both practical seminars and technical workshops which cover all the skills necessary for an artist to work towards being the best. The course has been put together by professionals, for professionals.
